Adhesive-based pallet stabilisation involves applying a small amount of adhesive to each package and as they are stacked, the glue secures all the packages together to form a stable unit.
Creating uniform stacks minimises over-hang and under-hang thus protecting corners from transit damage due to bumping.
Pallet stabilisation adhesive can also be applied directly to pallets and slip-sheets preventing unit loads from sliding during transportation.
Hot or and cold adhesive can be applied in a variety of patterns ( bead, swirl or dot) to minimise residue and accommodate most board stock without fibre tear. In addition, adhesive will not damage, deface or obscure packaging, graphics or bar codes.
Adhesives also withstand ambient heat and humidity to maintain load integrity in challenging environments
Alphabond’s CleanPeel and AquaPeel adhesives are specially formulated to give great adhesion when palletising for secure transportation, yet when unpacked will simply unlock and peel off leaving the absolute minimum of fibre tear on the packaging.
The hot melt CleanPeel range uses just one or two grades to perform effectively on many different substrates. Plastic bags, cardboard boxes and film wrapped product can all be stabilised saving money on stretch wrap, waste disposal whilst keeping your loads and customer relations in good order.
The AquaPeel range is applied cold and is a water-based adhesive which can be used on conveyor lines with automatic applicators or by hand for low usage applications.
Using these adhesives can cost as little as 2 pence per pallet providing great advantages over traditional methods. Pallet stabilisation adhesives help reduce the risk of unstable pallet loads which can lead to damage or loss of the products themselves together with the associated repair or replacement costs.
Systems that use fewer materials will most likely provide the greatest environmental and economic benefits.
When unitising with adhesive, less material is used initially and after a pallet is broken apart, it will remain secure without the use of additional materials. In addition, adhesive becomes a part of the original packaging so there is no additional waste to dispose of and recycling is easier.
The manufacture and disposal of stretch film is a common concern throughout the packaging industry. Debate continues on how severe the production and incineration of stretch film impacts the environment.
Whilst stretch wrap is itself recyclable, the environmental costs in the production and disposal are always a consideration.
